The Borough of Archbald was incorporated in 1876 and was named after James Archbald who was very prominent in
the development of Lackawanna Valley both economically and industrially.
Archbald is the largest borough in Pennsylvania, 33 square miles larger than most cities, Scranton and Wilkes-Barre included.
Archbald Borough is located in the northeast corner of the state about 12 miles north of Scranton. Archbald Borough is comprised of three municipalities, Archbald, Eynon and Sturges.
The borough is governed by seven council representatives, and a mayor elected at large from the community. Both council and the mayor serve four-year terms.
Archbalds claim to fame is that
the worlds largest glacial pothole is located here.
